The following is from Elmer's granddaughter Joanna Kaakinen:
I have a grand picture of my father in a bobsled up in Canada when he was about 1 year old. His father was the head of some gold mine up there. The story goes that the men's wages were stolen by a worker. My grandfather left my grandmother and infant alone in the small wooden cabin in the wilds for three weeks or so while he went off with the Mounties to hunt down this person and get the money back. He got the money back, but my grandmother said never again and they moved back to the US.
I also have a great picture of my Grandfather on the submarine in which he served during World War I. We found this picture in some sailor picture book while browsing at a book store. We have a family heirloom of a whale tooth he picked up the Azor Islands. All the members of my family have jewelry made out of this whales tooth. - (Research):Found his WWI draft card with no year on it. In 1917, or 1918, Forrest Elmer was living in Sault Ste.
