Jan. 19, 1941 - Jan. 9, 2008
Phillip Gordon Langager, 66, was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Willmar, Minn., to Henry M. Langager and Orien J. Bergquist Langager. He was raised in Willmar and attended grade school and junior high school there. At the passing of his father, Henry, in 1955, Phil, along with his brother and mother, moved to Orem, Utah, where Phil finished his high school years, graduating in May 1959. He attended Brigham Young University during the '59-'60 school year.
In November 1960, Phil married DyAnn Peck in Orem, Utah. They had six children, all of whom still live in Orem. They were divorced in 1978. In 1979, he met Sandra Marie Bogan while he was on assignment in Philomath. They were married in June of 1979, and Phil adopted her three children.
Phil was employed in the early '60s with an architectural and engineering supply firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1967, he went to work with a telephone-engineering firm in Provo, Utah. Upon the dissolution of that firm, he and another employee banded together, forming another consulting firm which became the nucleus of what is now Mid-State Consultants Inc., one of the nation's largest telephone consulting companies, with headquarters in Nephi, Utah.
In 1981, Phil resigned his vice president's position with Mid-State to take a staff engineering position with one of his clients, Pioneer Telephone Cooperative in Philomath. During his first trip to Philomath in 1967, Phil determined to live in this part of the country. He and Sandra moved to Philomath in 1981, thus fulfilling his dream.
Phil was diagnosed with juvenile onset diabetes in January of 1947, just days before his sixth birthday. He lived with that disease the rest of his life, taking up to three and four insulin shots per day. In 1988, Phil had several heart attacks, had three-way bypass surgery, and in 1991, was declared disabled. Although disability was not in Phil's vocabulary, he had to submit to his doctors and leave the work he loved so much.
That same year Sandra had started an adult foster care business in their home in Blodgett. Phil helped out with the bookkeeping and whatever other chores he was able to do. They closed that business in October 1994 and traveled in their motorhome for the next two years. In December of 1996, they returned to Philomath, bought a home and again were involved in the adult care business, establishing HIS House Adult Foster Care in Philomath.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sandra; children Machelle Johnson, Steffanie Williams, Amanda Kobelin, Melissa Ward, Kiristin Dean, and Quincy Langager, all of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by Viyanna Langager, Martin Langager, and Sandralen Houston, all of the Corvallis area. One brother, Paul Langager of Phoenix, Ariz., survives him, as do several cousins, 35 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Phil enjoyed traveling, the ocean beaches, golf and gospel music, of which he was one of a trio called HIS Song Southern Gospel Music. He spent much of his time evangelizing people, leading them to Jesus Christ. He was a member of Corvallis Church of God. The Rev. Travis Covey will officiate.
Donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association and HIS House Adult Foster Care.
